Cyprus Talks: Anastasiades invites Akinci for an informal dinner meeting

Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has invited, Turkish Cypriot president, Mustafa Akinci for an for an informal dinner meeting with the need to make progress on the Cyprus issue on the agenda.

The invitation was passed to Akinci through the UN Special Representative to Cyprus Elisabeth Spehar on Monday.

According to report by Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides, no confirmation has been received as yet.

It is reported that the Turkish Cypriot side was waiting for Spehar to return to Cyprus. “She came back on Saturday, so we are waiting,” Christodoulides said.

The informal dinner meeting would be the first since the Cyprus negotiations collapsed last summer at Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Christodoulides said this would be an informal meeting and not negotiations.

But a report by CNA, say Akinci had agreed in principle to have a meeting, but he doesn’t want to do so at this moment.
