African female student hit by a car while crossing a pedestrian traffic light in Hamitköy
A 21-year-old African student, Priscilla Kalamb, has been injured after a vehicle hit her while crossing a pedestrian traffic light in front of the Cyprus Media Group Facility at Hamitköy on Wednesday.
According to police report, the accident happened at about 2:30pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The 21-year-old university student, was trying to cross to the other side of the road on foot, when she was hit and injured by a car driver, identified ad Aliye Koyuncu, 37.
According to report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibris, she sustained a slight injury in the accident.
Medical team arrived quickly at the scene of the accident and was taken to the Lefkosa Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital where she was declared okay and put under observation.
Meanwhile, a university student was killed in the same route while trying to cross the road about five months ago.
This lead to a protest with students carrying placards saying "We Want Overpass", "Over Pass the Secure Way", but since then no measure has been taken on the said route.
