8 Zim students arrested for robbing 15 houses and 5 shops in Girne, 3 others being searched for

Eight Zimbabweans were on Tuesday arrested and taken to court for stealing goods from several shops in Girne and across the island more than three months ago with three others still been searched for.

According to police report, a privately funded team of the Girne Police Department has been searching for the robbery gang since the last three months following which eight people were arrested with with stolen goods.

The suspects, identified as W. M, B.P.M, F.M.M, F.T.R, M.R.M, C.K.E, M.M and H.N.T were arraigned before the Girne criminal court on Wednesday and charged with burglary, and breaking and entry.

They were ordered by the court to remain in police custody for two days for investigation purpose.

Police said they carried out the crime in December, 2017, and have been linked to many thefts in Lefkoşa and Girne area.

Police witness who testified in court said that the suspects were identified and arrested on Tuesday night at the following addresses at the Lavinium site, Block: 1, D: 7 and Block: 26, D: 5 in Dikmen.

Several electronic appliances and watches from the 13 houses and 5 different shops robbed were seized from them.

Police say they are still looking for three other suspects, stating that complaints from across the island reveals that there are still three more people wanted in connection with the incident.

Recovered from them were, a DELL brand laptop, a Sony Play-station 3 brand game console, a gray Nike backpack and many other electronic devices.
