20 Syrian refugees arrested in Famagusta
Four female human traffickers have been arrested by the TRNC police in Famagusta for helping 20 Syrian refugees enter the country illegally.
According to police report, the four female traffickers and 20 Syrian refugees were arrested in a raid on an apartment building in Baykal district, Famagusta on Friday afternoon following a tip off.
All 24 were taken to a Famagusta court on Saturday.
Among the refugees found in the apartment were 15 Syrian female who were all illegal immigrants.
Police said they also searched two cargo-loaded trucks parked outside the apartment and found five male Syrian immigrants hiding inside.
The court ordered the suspects to remain in police custody for three days in order to conduct the investigation.
