Turkish Cypriot group calls for stronger measures against drug use
The
Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (Kamu-Sen) has called for harder measures against drugs in the country claiming that the
murder of Nigerian student, Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede has revealed the point of violence and drug
trafficking in the country.
The group said more serious measures should be taken to prevent drug entry into the country, through creating public awareness on the dangers of drugs, organizing awareness for families, with emphasis on the serious use of drug and trade.
In a statement on Friday, the group said "The number of police is inadequate and needs to be increased
especially due to the recent negative pressures on the police that should be
avoided."The group said more serious measures should be taken to prevent drug entry into the country, through creating public awareness on the dangers of drugs, organizing awareness for families, with emphasis on the serious use of drug and trade.
The group also demanded that those who commit crime knowingly and willingly causing the death of someone, should be punished severely by law.
It comes after a 28-year-old Nigerian, Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, an Architecture student at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Magusa was kidnapped, beaten and killed by 7 people on Monday, January, 29 due to drug related issue.
