Students to protest Kennedy's murder in court on Friday
Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, an Architecture student at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Magusa was kidnapped by 7 gang members on Monday, January, 29 from his resident in Magusa and taken to the Çanakkale lake in the outskirt of the city where he was seriously beaten and killed.
He was left half naked in the Çanakkale Pond with half his body in the lake and the other half outside. Following the incident, 7 suspects namely; Ozan Korkurt, 18, Zekeriya Founder, 22, Burcu Çelik, 16, Onur Körkurt, 21, Simge Dağdur, 28, Aydan Sel and Nidai Şanlı, 28 were arrested in connection with the murder and charged to court for murder, human abduction and serious assault.
The suspects will all be brought to court on Friday.
Since the incident there has been a public out cry from the Nigerian community in Cyprus seeking justice for the murdered Kennedy. Also series of protests has been organized in universities across the island as well as social media protests with the hastag #JusticeForKennedy.
To this extent a Facebook group has been created for this cause.
A statement released by the group on it's Facebook page reads;
We will be gathering in front of the Gazimagusa court on Friday the 9th of February at 8:30 Demanding justice for Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede. Racists, criminals and violent people make no distinction between ethnic groups and cultures, languages and traditions when they decide to strike. UNITE AGAINST RACISM AND CRIME!
