Paragliding World Cup results in held in Girne canceled following protest by south Cyprus

The results of the just concluded Paragliding Accuracy World Cup held at Tatlisu in North Cyprus have been discounted, after the Greek Cypriot Air Sports Federation (NAC) protested to the World Air Sports Federation (FAI).

The FAI had announced that the first leg of the event was scheduled to take place in Mersin, Turkey but the venue was then moved to Girne, North Cyprus without the consent of the Cyprus Air Sports Federation.

Following a protests by South Cyprus, the FAI agreed to discount the results “as Cyprus per international law is one area.”

The Northern part of Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey, and events cannot take place there without support by the Cyprus NAC,” a message on its website read.
