My voters card my power - Nigerian youths go get your PVC today!
As elections draw closer more opinions are been aired both
for and against some of Nigeria's political leaders. The frustration been
experience by a large proportion of the Nigerian population is glaring for most
to see, and the support for some of these same political leaders show the extent
Nigerians can go to support failed leaders due to political affiliation, ethnic
background, and religious sentiment.
As we are approaching another election year again, one is forced to recalled the promises made by these politicians before the last general elections and wonder if these electionary promises has been fulfilled or are we as individuals heaping too much expectations on these leaders.
Then one is forced to ask if wanting fulfillment of electioneer campaign promises is too much to ask, or if the decay of the system purportedly left by previous administration will take forever to rectify.
One is also force to ask if the major demands by Nigerians are even suppose to be, like i am bemused beyond words that at this stage of Nigeria's existence post independence era we are still clamoring for steady and improved electricity, good road network, functional government parastatal, improve educational funding and basic amenities. That an oil producing nation is still experiencing fuel scarcity, and can't boast of functioning refinery, while billions of Naira are constantly been looted, squandered and used for trivial purposes.
With the enormous wealth bestowed on this nation and the quantum looting of the nation treasury by these political leaders, one is perplexed at the reluctance by presumed upright individuals to venture into politics in order to remedy the carcasses left of our nation. One is forced to ask if our youths will continue to mortgage her collective future for bread, stipends, and social festivity.
With the power of social media in this internet age, where a lot can change by a single Facebook post, a Twitter post and an Instagram video, Nigerian youths are yet to utilize these tools for our political redemption, even though they are the most active on these platforms fighting over whats wrong in the Nigeria system, her leaders and her politicians. We continue to see social media talks with little or no efforts to put things.
