Murder of Nigerian student in North Cyprus: Suspects were all involved in drugs

All the suspects arrested for the murder of 28-year-old Nigerian student, Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede were all involved in drugs, this is according to a citizen who opened up about the real face of the incident.

The citizen who wants to remain anonymous made the revelation to Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibrissondakika.

According to the citizen, 18-year- old Ozan Korkurt, who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Kennedy, along with Zekeriya Founder, 22, Burcu Çelik, 16, Onur Körkurt, 21, and Simge Dağdur, 28 were all involved in smuggling drugs into the country from abroad and distributing them to sellers and as a result had issues with one of them whom he claimed to be Kennedy.

According to his confession, Ozan Korkurt and his friends Zekeriya Founder, Burcu Çelik, Onur Körkurt, Simge Dağdur and Aydan Sel made a deal with Kennedy, who made the sale after taking drugs from them, but did not pay back the money adding that he would get new drugs and give money for the old debt with new sales.

On how he was killed - He was beaten up for not paying for the drug substance he had bought to sell.
The suspects took Kennedy to the meeting area at the Çanakkale Pond and according to him, they did not intend to kill him. He said they hit him on the head but Kennedy could not withstand it as it was pretty intense and gave up the ghost.

At that time, the incident was being recorded on a phone by Aydin Sel who told and sent the video to somebody who then reported the matter to the police.

When Aydan Sel found out that the police were looking for him, he tried to escape to south Cyprus where he was caught by the police.

Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede
Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede, 28, an Architecture student at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Magusa was kidnapped and beaten by 7 people on Monday, January, 29 and then taken to the Çanakkale lake where he was killed.

Kennedy was left half naked in the Çanakkale Pond. Following the incident, 6 out of the 7 suspects connected with the murder have been arrested and charged to court for murder, human abduction and serious assault.

Police Investigation
The death of Kennedy has caused great tension and unrest in the region in the last two days.

Explaining what happened, the police said the deceased was kidnapped from his Apartment at Haci Bektas Street in Famagusta's Kali Land District by force on Monday, January 29 at about 9:45pm and then taken to the pond where he was beaten.

Zakiriya Founders, Ozan Körkurt and B. Ç, 16, were arrested on Tuesday, while Onur Körkurt, 21, Aydan Sel, 28, and Simge Dağdur who tried to escape to south Cyprus the night before in a car were arrested by the police on Wednesday evening. Aydan Sel, told the police that he was a fugitive in the car, and does not know anything."

Police said they also investigated a citizen living in the same apartment with Dede on suspicion of his car license plate.

Police witness said the suspects had forced the victim into the car and took him to Çanakkale Pond where he was seriously beaten leading to his death.

Police said they are currently on the trail of another suspect identified as Nidai Şanlı who is believed to have crossed into the South from Akyar Kara Entrance Gate.

It was learnt that Nidai Şanlı was found to be in the camera recordings in front of a market in the area where the victim was being carried by the vehicle he was using but police has denied that the murder was recorded on a camera.

One of the suspect, Simge Dağdur, upon arrest, expressed regret over the incident and said, "I'm sorry. I'm very regretful. I gave in to tell the truth, I did not run away.
