Careless driving responsible for mounting accident toll in TRNC
Deaths and injuries resulting from road traffic accidents in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus has been on the rise.
According to report weekly traffic report by Turkish Cypriot police, one person died and 47 people were injured in
traffic accidents in the last week.
According to the report, 18 of the accidents took place in Girne, 13 in Lefkosa, 12 in Famagusta, 3 in Yeni Iskele, and 1 in Güzelyurt between January 29 – February 4.
Also 17 accidents were caused by failing to give way at crossroads (17), 13 caused by driving too closely to the vehicle in front, 11 caused by careless driving while other factors accounted for 6.
On the other hand, in the same period, 6,542 drivers were monitored nationwide, 905 traffic violations were recorded.
The report adds that there were 305 traffic speeding offences, 153 speaking on a mobile phone while driving and 71 not following traffic signals and signs.
