Akinci approves new government

North Cyprus: President of the Turkish republic of North Cyprus, Mustafa Akinci on Friday approved a new 11-member ‘cabinet.’ 

The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman presented his cabinet for the four-party coalition government to this morning.

Earlier in the week, Erhürman was handed the task of forming a ‘government’ by Akinci after his party, agreed to form a coalition ‘government’ with the Peoples’ Party (HP), the Social Democratic Party (TDP) and the Democratic Party (DP), following elections in the north last month.

The new cabinet is as follows

Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay
Minister of Interior Ayşegül Baybars Kadri
Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş
Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit
Minister of Labour and Social Security Zeki Çeler
Minister of Health Filiz Besim
Minister of Public Works and Communications Tolga Atakan
Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu
Minister of Economy and Energy Özdil Nami
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Erkut Şahali

The cabinet will be presented to parliament at a special session this afternoon.

Following parliamentary session, handover ceremonies will take place at the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Education Ministry.

The government programme will be read out in parliament next week and a vote of confidence will be held no later than two days after the programme is read out.

According to the constitution, a motion of no confidence cannot be filed against the government before the first three months of the vote of confidence.
