5 Nigerians arrested and detained for drug related offenses in Famagusta

Five Nigerian students have been detained for three days after they were arrested by the North Cyprus narcotics police in a drug operation in Famagusta.

The five suspects between the ages of 21 and 33 were taken to court on Wednesday on charges of drug use and possession and were given 3 days' detention order.

Police in a report said a student house and an apartment block where the suspects resides were raided on Monday February 26 following a tip off.

According to police report, substances believed to be synthetic cannabinoid type drugs weighing 4 and 5 grams, a sensitive scale with some drug residues on it, a synthetic cannabinoid type drugs mixed with tobacco and 1,700 TL believed to be from the sale of drugs was seized in the operation.

Police said they will send the sensitive scales, cigarettes, packaged substances believed to be drugs, and other evidence to laboratories for inspection during the period of detention.
