Dust takes over Cyprus island
Dust particles has been observed around the whole of Cyprus island on Friday and will likely continue into the week end.
According to a report by Cyprus Mail, In Nicosia, the average hourly concentrations of respirable particulate matter with a diameter smaller than 10mm (PM 10) in the atmosphere was 103.5 μg/m³ on Thursday afternoon, levels were 572,1 μg/m³ by Friday morning.
According to the Met office, dust levels will be roughly the same at least until Sunday morning, as winds from the south will bring more dust during Friday and Saturday.
The public is warned to stay indoors as much as possible and to avoid physical exercise.
People with respiratory problems, heart disease, kidney patients, immunodeficiencies, children and the elderly need to be particularly careful.
Symptoms of the dust to the respiratory systems includes cough, shortness of breath or eye irritation.
Persons with chronic respiratory diseases may need to increase the dose of their medication if advised to do so by their doctor.
