Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip mark 70th anniversary with new portraits

A series of new portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, were released on Monday to mark their 70th wedding anniversary.

The British monarch and her husband got married on 20th November 1947 when they were still Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, at Westminster Abbey in London.

The wedding attracted worldwide attention and came just five years before Elizabeth would ascend the throne following the sudden death of her father, King George VI.

The bells of Westminster Abbey, where they married in 1947, will ring to mark the occasion.

The images — taken by celebrity photographer Matt Holyoak with photo agency Camera Press — show the couple together in the White Drawing Room of at Windsor Castle.

Royal Mail has issued a set of six commemorative stamps, featuring the couple's engagement and wedding.
