No time to waste on the Cyprus problem - Akinci

There is no more time to waste to find a solution to the Cyprus problem, said President of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus on Monday.

President Mustafa Akinci made the remarks when addressing a meeting organised by the Turkish Bar Association within the framework of commemorating Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

According to Akinci, a new result-oriented method is needed which will be open to “comprehensive approaches”. There should be a predetermined time frame and the cessation of endless “unproductive negotiations,” reports Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibris.

Akinci also noted that he hoped that the Greek Cypriot leadership and the Greek Cypriot community will be able to develop an approach, which would lead to a change in mentality after the presidential elections. If this happens, a new method could be used for finding a lasting solution in Cyprus on the basis of equality, freedom and security.
