50 people killed in suicide bomb attack in mosque in Nigeria
At least 50 people were killed after a suicide bomber struck a mosque in northeastern Nigeria as worshipers arrived for morning prayers, in the biggest mass killing this year
and one of the deadliest attacks in the region in years.
The bombing in Mubi, Adamawa state on Tuesday was carried out by a teenage man who was carrying explosives, police said.
Police spokesman in the state, Abubakar Othman, said the death toll from the attack is 50 people, but "there could be more as those seriously injured could add to the figure."
Though no one or group has claim responsibility for the attack, but it is believed that the terrorists group, Boko Haram who carries out regular attacks in the region is behind the attack.
Boko Haram took hold of Mubi in 2014, but were later pushed out of those areas by troops in early 2015.
Tuesday's attack is the highest loss of life since two schoolgirl suicide bombers killed 56 people and wounded dozens more in a coordinated attack on a crowded market in the same state in December, 2016.
Boko Haram has waged an insurgency in northeast Nigeria since 2009 in its attempt to create an Islamic state in the region, killing more than 20,000 and forcing around two million people to flee their homes.
