Thousands of Turkish Cypriots take part in colorful Lefkosa marathon

The Lefkoşa Marathon organized by the Lefkoşa Turk Municipality (LTB) to raise funds for SOS Children’s Village and sponsored by Turkcell kicked off today beginning with the 21 km category.

The marathon, which saw the participation of thousands of people, provided a good platform for both healthy life and social solidarity.

Taking part in the marathon were athletes, police and LTB. Reinforcement stations were built, while traffic flow was also actively controlled as athletes pass by.

The Dr.Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and the Near East Hospital provided ambulances for the marathon.

 

The marathon which was held in 3 different categories, first started with 21KM category of 21 km from the LTB. The second race of the day was held in the 8 kilometer category while the third category of 4 kilometer race was carried out with the participation of thousands of citizens.

In attendance was the TRNC president and his wife, Mustafa Akıncı and Meral Akıncı.

  

After the completion of the marathon, awards were given to graduates in general class.
 

The SOS Children funds will be used for the transportation of children to school and social activities for children in Lefkosa.
