Student involved in a fight in Haspolat released by police

A student who was injured in a fight between two Nigerian groups in a university campus in Haspolat has been discharged from hospital, and released with assurance.

Emmanuel Ojo was wounded in the fight that was linked to disagreement over a girl. It was alleged that Emmanuel wounded two other students in a knife attack.

He appeared in court this week where he told the court that he was wounded while trying to separate the fight and that he had been operated on in his wrists.

Police noted that they were still searching for three people connected with the fight adding that one of the injured was still in the hospital.

Prosecutor Aysun Bilgin on behalf of the TRNC Prosecutor's Office and Police Officer Ercan Kunduracı, who served in the Demirhan Police Station, listened to the case in the presence of Senior Judge Tacan Reynar as a witness.

The witness said that at 8:00pm on October 6th, an argument ensued over a girl in front of an apartments at the Cyprus International University in Haspolat and soon turned into a fight.

The witness noted that the accused Emmanuel Ojo was arrested on charges of "Bruise", "Serious assault", "Fight" and "Discomfort".

The witness stated that one person was still in hospital and that three people were being searched for.

The witness demanded that the accused, who is a student, be given a sentence that the court see fit.

Senior Judge Tacan Reynar ordered that the accused be bailed pending trial on condition that he would not be allowed to go abroad, hand over his travel documents to the police, lodge a cash bond for 15,000 TL, and report to the police once a week.
