North Cyprus authorities amends residency rules for international students and foreigners

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRCN) immigration service has amended it's residency rules for international students and foreigners living in the Country.

The amendments came after the TRNC government noticed the high rise in international students who have been living in the country illegally without student permit. Some of such students are said to have serious health issues, including “sexually transmitted diseases” which it said is endangering the community.

The amendments made are stated below.

  • Student permit will only be issued for 1year (365days) for every international Student.
  •  Renewal of Permit is extremely important as there will be a 100 to 300tl charge on every extra day after expiration of permit.

Deadline for renewal for old students and application for new students is November 30, 2017. Any student who fail to renew His/Her permit before this deadline will be charged the sum of 100.38TL per day.

The President of the Nigerian Student Union, Cyprus International University, (NSU-CIU), Comrade Ifeoluwa Osho in a brief statement, stressed the importance of the amendment where he encouraged students to make sure they heed to the new rule in other to avoid being deported.
