Murder in Famagusta - Turkish Cypriot man shot and kill ex-girlfriend, then attempt suicide
Tragedy struck on Thursday night when a Turkish Cypriot man, Hayrettin Ozcömert, shot and killed his ex-girlfriend
Halime Çetin, who worked as a nurse at G.Mağusa State Hospital, before
reportedly turning the weapon on himself.
The unfortunate incident happened at the house belonging to the victim, located at No. 5, Antalyalıl Street, in the Maras district of Famagusta at about 10:00pm on Thursday night.
According to report, the murderer Ozcömert, 43 allegedly went to the woman's house with a hunting rifle and cartridges, entered the house in an undetectable way, broke into her bedroom and shot the victim on her chest. He then turned the weapon on himself and shot himself twice in front of the house where he sustained serious injury.
While the woman lost her life at the crime scene, the murderer was first taken to the Famagusta State Hospital and then the Lefkosa Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.
According to Turkish Cypriot daily, the murderer allegedly attacked the victim's family members, as they try to protest her killing.
The reason for his action has not been known yet as police are investigating the incident.
Before her death, Halime, 45 has two sons from her previous marriage and was a nurse in the Dental Policlinic at a Famagusta hospital.
The murderer, Ozcömert has been working in the Municipality of Famagusta until recently before he started working in construction company reports, Kibris online. He is said to have recently obtained the hunting rifle and the necessary licenses.
While police teams intervened in the incident, a comprehensive investigation was conducted at the scene of the murder.
