Kenyan president Kenyatta wins re-run election
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared winner of last week's controversial re-run presidential election winning slightly with more than 98 per cent of the
vote.
The
turnout for the vote, which was boycotted by opposition leader Raila
Odinga, was just under 39 per cent of the 19.6 million registered
voters, according to the election commission on Monday. Odinga had pulled out of the election and urged his supporters to boycott it.
Kenyatta was declared the winner in the August vote, which was later annulled because of "irregularities".
Speaking after the announcement, Kenyatta said he expected the opposition to challenge his victory in the October 26 repeat presidential election in court and that any dialogue must wait until that process is done.

My victory today is just part of a process that is likely to once again be subjected to a constitutional test through our courts.... I will submit to this constitutional path regardless of the outcome," Kenyatta said in his acceptance speech.
Those who are going to ask me: 'Are you going to engage in dialogue?' ... Let them (the opposition) first and foremost exhaust all their constitutional options.
