Germany remain top in latest FIFA World Rankings for October

World football governing body on Monday released it's men football ranking for the month of October which saw Germany retain it's position as the best ranked team in the world followed by Brazil in second, Portugal in third, Argentina in fourth, Belgium in fifth and Poland in sixth, who all remain unchanged since the last ranking in September.

France moved up to seventh, while Spain jumped three spots to eighth. Chile, who missed out on qualifying for the World Cup, are ninth with Peru completing the top 10.

The ranking also saw Denmark and Netherlands who made a big jump of nine spots into the top 20, while England moved up three places to 12th leapfrogging Wales, Mexico and Colombia.

The Republic of Ireland and Scotland both broke into the top 30 by climbing eight and 14 spots respectively.

The USA also climbed the ranking, moving to 27, despite failing to qualify for the World Cup. Austria were the big movers in the top 50 as they leapt 18 places into 39th, while the Czech Republic (up 12) and Panama (up 11) also made dramatic strides.

Ecuador were the big losers, falling from 35th to 60th in one fell swoop.

Tunisia is first in Africa and 28th in the world, followed by Egypt in second and 30th in the world. Senegal is third in Africa and 32nd in the world, Congo DR is fourth and 35th in the world and Nigeria is 5th in Africa and 42nd in the world.
