Fake 200TL bank note in circulation - North Cyprus police warns

The North Cypriot police has issued an alert about the circulation of fake 200TL notes. The announcement comes after the police arrested four people for possessing the fake bank notes.

The police who gave the warning about the 200 TL fake notes said the note could be identified with the serial number- B 001654000 and requested public to notify the police of any suspicious ones.

The warning comes after a 23-year-old, who was a customer at a petrol station in İskele-Boğaz, was arrested on charges of using a fake 200TL bank note to pay for gasoline and water.

According to police, 10 more 200 TL banknotes containing the same serial number were found in the savings of an accused person following an investigation.

Three people, with the initials, G.Ş. (age-31), MS (age-19) and E.Ç (age-20) were arrested in connection with the incident.

It is feared that there is a possibility that the counterfeit money is already in circulation, either in the market, or through bank transfer, foreign exchange companies, financial institutions, and citizens.

Report any suspects to the nearest police station.
