Donald Trump comes under fire for insensitive remark to pregnant military widow

US president, Donald Trump has come under fire for his ‘insensitive’ choice of words and criticized for telling the pregnant widow of a US soldier killed in combat that her husband "knew what he signed up for" moments before she greeted his coffin.

Lance Sergeant David Johnson, 25, was among four elite special forces killed when their patrol was ambushed by Islamic militants in Niger.

Trump was criticised for failing to speak about the incident, amid increasing reports that the mission was flawed.

According to report, Trump failed to meet Sgt Johnson's coffin when it first arrived back on American soil on Saturday and went golfing instead.

And to add further insult, when he finally called the soldier's widow Myeshia Johnson on Tuesday he showed lack of compassion.

According to Rep. Frederica Wilson, during the five minute call, Trump told Johnson that her 25-year-old husband ‘knew what he signed up for… but when it happens it hurts anyway.’

The remark delivered with a car full of people listening on speakerphone drew instant condemnation, but Trump has come out to say it was entirely made up.

Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!’ Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning.
Mrs Johnson, who is expecting the couple's third child in January, wept uncontrollably over her husband's coffin at Miami Airport.
