Despite isolation the TRNC is still part of the EU: Akinci

Despite the isolation faced by the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, the part of the island is still part of the European Union, said president Mustafa Akıncı.

Akinci  made the comments when speaking to a group of volunteers who travelled to the TRNC from the Belgian town of Vorselaar by bus with the aim of promoting North Cyprus and distributing gifts and aid to orphanages in European towns and cities along the route.

According to Akıncı, the North Cyprus community has always existed as a part of the European Union despite the fact that it was not internationally recognised by the world.

No matter how isolated the Turkish Cypriot community is no one can change the fact that it is part of the EU”, he said.

Akıncı thanked the volunteers who will be donating the sum of €5,000 to the Çağlayan Orphanage.

Members of The Robinson Club departed from the Belgian town of Vorselaar 16 days ago, travelling to the TRNC via bus.

The volunteers distributed over 1300 toys at orphanages in Croatia and Bulgaria, passing through 10 countries before arriving at their final destination in the TRNC.

Culled from BRT.
