Cyprus Gist - Zim student escape danger after taking auto-stop in Girne
Now and then many international students in North Cyprus especially African rely on auto-stop (Hitchhiking) as an alternative means of reaching their destination due to the irregular transport system in the country, especially at night.
And over time, there have been series of negative stories of how most Turkish/Turkish Cypriot men who tried to help take advantage of the opportunity to solicit for sex from both female and male students. Some has been raped and harassed in the process.
So on this particular day, a Zim student who tried hitchhiking from Girne to Lefkosa in the wee hours of the night almost got more than what he bargained for.
His friend Prince Styllz share the experience on Facebook, please read and learn from it.
We advice that if you must use an auto stop, please be vigilant and careful. Its is not safe especially at night.
If you have any experience you wish to share with us, please feel free to).

Yesterday Takunda Kudzie Kaseke finished work late in Girne were he works and then went to do autostop (hiking) just after girne small round about and a car stopped for him and he asked the guys if they were going to Lefkosa and the guys told him that they were also going to lefkosa and he got into the car and according to him he then noticed that he was seating on top of something and that's when he saw that it was a car plate meaning the car had no number plates so the car then immediately turned just after the girne curve going towards the st hilarion mountain and he then asked the guys why they turned and was then told to keep quiet and not to scream that's when he noticed that the guy who was seating on the passengers seat had a gun a pistol on his legs so the guys then stopped the car and hid the pistol under his passenger seat and they started to quarrel and with anger the guy who was seating at the passenger broke the passenger windscreen with a bottle that's when they got out of the car and went on front of the car and started to quarrel and the driver pressed his key and thought he had locked takunda inside but the doors were not locked so he then texted his friend in lefkosa to atleast tell him the number plate which he was seating next to and according to him he heard them saying let's just do it in their language that's when he slowly tried to open the door and it opened and he ran going back to the main road and he said when he got to the main road he started to stop cars standing on the middle of the road and a Good Samaritan stopped for him and took him to Boaz police station and he then gave the police the car's number plate....The police might not take this matter serious but please my fellow Africans desist from doing Autostop during late hours it's nolonger safe out there l felt l should share this after he narrated his scary encounter to me and my other friends and we thought we should share it some might take it as a joke but it happened yesterday evening and tomorrow it might be you and the case is being investigated at boaz police station along Girne road...Be safe out there avoid auto stop during late hours.
