Zimbabwe moves to ban sales of alcohol

Zimbabwean government has moved to ban the sales of alcoholic drinks in the country by enacting a law that prohibits anyone from taking alcohol during week days.

The law which is meant to curb the abuse of alcohol also includes expectant women and will b valid during some hours of the day from Monday to Friday every week, except weekends. 

The new law will particularly target motor vehicle drivers, who will face arrest if found driving with blood alcohol concentration levels going beyond 0,08 per 100ml, reports the Zimbabwe Mail.

The law also provide guidelines for the consumption of alcohol during special events like parties and weddings on the basis of the venue in which they are held.

Former Zimbabwe health minister Timothy Stamps, now serving as health adviser in the office of the president is credited to be the sponsor of the new National Alcohol Policy.

The law will likely affect big alcoholic beverage companies like Delta Corporation and African Distillers while liquor shops and bars are not left out.
