We do not expect negotiations to resume yet - Akıncı

President of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, Mustafa Akıncı has said that they did not expect the UN to take the initiative to restart the Cyprus negotiations talks.
 
According to Akıncı, the UN Secretary General was not thinking about any attempt while the election process was under way in Southern Cyprus adding that the Greek Cypriot side does not have any expectation in this direction.
 
Akıncı made the comments after his meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres by the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.
 
He noted that a new process that will require a new methodology may be after the presidential election in the South.
 
Akıncı stated that he had the opportunity to share the views of the Turkish Cypriot side with Guterres and to get his views and according to him, Guterres stated that they had the same opinion for the future, and was not thinking about any attempt to restart negotiations while the election process was taking place in South as the Greek Cypriot side did not have an expectation in this direction.
 
Akıncı also pointed out that Greek Cypriot President, Nicos Anastasiadis could not be expected to make serious moves while preparing for election.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily, Havadis, Guterres said that a different method should be tried so as to get the results from the process. 

Akıncı noted that the Greek Cypriots side were indifferent to the equality of the Turkish Cypriots and that they were not ready for a settlement based on political equality, that may one day see a Turkish Cypriot as president of the common state.
