Update on Zim student, Valentine Tatadzwa Sewera

It's been five days now since Valentine Tatadzwa Sewera, was found dead in a university dormitory in Haspolat, Cyprus, just three days after arriving the country.

From our investigation so far on the incident, Valentine was allegedly high on over dose of an unnamed substance (this has not been confirmed yet as the police still awaits the autopsy result).

A close confidant who spoke to Olomoinfo Blog on the condition of anonymity said they actually don't know the real reason behind his death, but think he took an overdose of an unknown substance. According to the confidant, Valentine had arrived the university campus on Friday September 8 and was checked into a temporary accommodation until his accommodation is sorted out. But it happened that, that was the last time he was heard of.

According to the source, he became curious when his friends who were expecting him to arrive the island did not hear from him and had to go check the dorm if he has actually checked in. But then he didn't have any reason to suspect that anything might have gone wrong until the news of his death broke out on Sunday.

When contacted on the matter, the school authority with which he was registered, described the incident as unfortunate and told us that they were still expecting the autopsy result from the police which will still take some time before it comes out.

The university said they were in touch with his family back home and is already making preparations for his body to be taken back to Zimbabwe as soon as possible.

They also urged all new students coming into the country to study to be careful in what they indulge in.

Valentine's death follows that of last year when a Zim girl, Elizabeth Choto, committed suicide in November, 2016, after battling with depression, barely two months after she arrived the island to study and also in August last year, when another Zimbabwean student Takudzwa Cheetan Mandivudza drowned at a Beach in Magusa.

Valentine who was 27-years old was in the country to study for his masters in Tourism and Hotel Management.

Police had arrived the dorm on Sunday following report of the incident but said they found no impulse on him upon examination of his body.

As the university awaits the autopsy result, police say they are still carrying out investigation into the incident to identify the cause of his death.

All attempts to reach the president of the Zimbabwe student union in the university for more information on the incident were unsuccessful.

  2. Too many students are dying mysteriously in Cyprus and little or no explanations are being offered. To note is the number of Zimbabwean students who are being found dead. Why is there no one asking the questions why and how is all this happening under the noses of the authorities. Not so long ago a Zimbabwean male student from CIU was found dead by the road side and it claimed that it was a hit and run to add is the girl who was also found dead in ergun apartment which was changed to bayran apartment. Foreign students lives matter too there should be a representative who investigates these incidents.

  3. Why can they not just be truthful. This is my nephew and when I contacted the authorities there to find out the cause of his death on Wednesday 13 September 2017 I was told that they had found several empty bottles of energy drink. Why can't they just be transparent instead of trying to make our son look as though he was indulging in illegal substances. According to speculation, high energy drinks taken in large amounts can accelerate heart attacks.
We are already battling with trying to come to terms with his death and the least they can do is to give us plausible explanation. This one is unacceptable. It's like as if they cannot be bothered and show no concern at all. Too many mysterious deaths and they just brush them under the carpet. He only just arrived for Gods sake.
I am emotionally wrecked and devasted. Still can't believe you are no more. Rest in perfect peace mwanangu.
