Unique type of object discovered in the Solar System

Two astronomical bodies that were never seen before, have been discovered in the Solar System, on the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, orbiting around each other.
 

Details of the discovery was made by scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany with the help of the Hubble Space Telescope and were published in Nature magazine.

 

Two asteroids of the same mass and size, which exhibited comet features, were said to orbit about 100 kilometers apart.

 

Asteroid double "288P" was recorded as the name given.

 

The 288P was also described as the first binary asteroid to be classified as a comet at the same time.

 

Scientists assume that the binary asteroid system has existed for only 5,000 years.
