Trump issues new travel ban, includes North Korea, Venezuela and Chad

US president, Donald Trump has expanded his controversial travel ban to include people from North Korea, Venezuela and Chad citing security reasons.

The White House said the restrictions follow a review of information sharing by foreign governments.

The new travel ban issued by Trump on Sunday restrict visitors and immigrants from eight countries that have “inadequate” vetting procedures.

Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Somalia remain under the travel ban while sanctions previously placed on Sudan were lifted.

North Korea, Venezuela and Chad are the three new countries to join the other five on the list.

In a presidential proclamation, Trump said the countries in the list had "inadequate" security protocols.
The American Civil Liberties Union rights group said the addition of the new countries "doesn't obfuscate the real fact that the administration's order is still a Muslim ban".

These restrictions are both vital to national security and conditions based,” a senior Administration official said Sunday.

The travel restrictions on the new countries will kick in at 12:01 am on Oct. 18. Guidelines will be sent to embassies and consulates on how to implement the new proclamation.

Countries will be removed from the travel ban when they meet the standards for information sharing on identifying their nationals.
