Fake house agent arrested and paraded in court

Some time ago in May, we brought you a report about a Turkish Cypriot man identified as Ahmet who has been scamming various students seeking to rent apartments in North Cyprus for the past two years. Read here. Ahment along with another suspect are now under investigation after they appeared in court on Friday.

Ahmet Uğurluşanlıtürk, Lapis Property Director who appeared at a Nicosia Accident court on Friday, was accused of renting out houses belonging to other real estate companies in Lefkosa claiming they were under his responsibility and also for renting out the same apartment to different people, duping them of their hard earned money.

According to report by Turkish Cypriot daily, Havadis, Ahmet rents and leases out people's houses in Lefkosa that he does not have the authority to rent out, under the name of Lapis Emlak. He then rent them out with false and forged lease agreements and misappropriated about 24, 700 TL in the process.

Another suspect in the case Seran Dobran who usually introduced himself as a host to unsuspecting victims who wanted to rent a house following a tip off from Ahmet was also paraded in court.

The court ordered that Seran Dobran be prohibited from traveling abroad, and report to the nearest police station once a week. He was also told to present a TRNC citizen as a guarantor with 20 thousand TL surety pending trial by the senate.

The judge also ordered that Ahmet remain in custody for another five days due to the ongoing investigation against him.

Police officer who testified against him in court said in the period from July - September 2017, Ahmet rented out houses in Lefkosa using pictures of houses he did not have the right to rent under the name of Lapis Emlak.

He said that Ahmet rented out the houses with fraudulent leasing agreements up to the tune of 24, 700TL.

His accomplice, Seran Dobran, on the other hand, told police that Ahmet would call the people who want to rent the houses while he would present himself as a host with the promise of delivering the house to them on a later date in the disguise that the house was under renovation.

Police demanded that the investigation against Seran Dobran be completed and requested that the court applied a punishment it considers appropriate.

The police also requested that Ahmet be allowed to remain in custody for another five days for investigation purpose stating that they were still receiving new complaints against every day.

Please be careful about the agents you deal with.
