Cyprus Talks: Anastasiades ready to return to the negotiating table

Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has reiterated his determination to return to the negotiation table with the Turkish Cypriot side within the framework laid out by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Anastasiades told reporters on Friday that he has sent letters to the UN Secretary-General, as well as the permanent members of the Security Council, and foreign governments regarding the talks.

In my letters to country leaders and European governments, the Islamic Conference, and the Secretary-General himself, I have reiterated the Greek Cypriot side’s determination to return to the negotiating table, as long as good preparation has been ensured and within the framework laid down by the Secretary-General,” he said.

He also said, he will have the opportunity to promote the Greek Cypriot views in his meeting with Guterres during the United Nations’ general assembly later this month, both verbally and in writing.

Reunification talks between the two sides along with guarantors powers, Turkey, Greece and England in Cras Motana, Switzerland in July collapsed as both sides failed to reach an agreement.
