Cyprus Gist: Man arrested for raping under age girl in Girne

A Turkish Cypriot man have appeared in court after he was accused of raping an underage girl under the influence of alcohol in a hotel.

The accused identified as Aykut Donmez was arraigned in a Girne Accident Court on Friday on charges of "sexual assault" and "violation of private secrecy" and taken into custody afterwards where he will remain for three days.

Investigation by Police Sergeant Üzeyir Kürşat Koçer, who is in charge of the Girne Forensic Branch Directorate, stated that the suspect had entered sexual relations with the victim under the influence of alcohol on September 7, 2017 in a Girne hotel.

Police added that the accused recorded the rape on a mobile phone.

According to Police, investigation was still on going into the incident.

The court ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for three days in order to conduct the investigation.
