"You crazy to see a psychiatrist" - Jay-Z talks about the importance of therapy

'Someone needs to talk you through why you're feeling these feelings' said US rapper, Jay-Z as he spoke about the importance of openly discussing mental health issues and therapy in a new interview.

The rapper, who released his candid thirteenth solo studio album 4:44 on June 30, has released a range of visual accompaniments to his new record – most recently with the new Lupita Nyong’o-starring video for the track MaNyfaCedGod.

Jay Z was speaking in the latest video from his ‘Footnotes’ series about his new album ‘4:44’- which features interviews with major stars about a range of complex issues when he opened up about the stigma that surrounds seeking therapy in black communities in the US.

We can’t go to get therapists, he said. You crazy at that point. It’s like, ‘A psychiatrist? You crazy.
Three of your brothers are dead and your mother used to beat you. You need help. Someone needs to talk you through why you’re feeling these feelings, Jay Z continued.

The latest Footnotes clip also features interviews with comedians Chris Rock, Michael Che and Trevor Noah.
