Usain Bolt collapses in final relay race

The glitter that has cascaded upon Usain Bolt incredible career was nowhere to be seen in London on Saturday, as the eight-time Olympic champion was spiked with bad luck that led to a disaster and made his last race ever painful to watch.

Bolt was anchoring Team Jamaica in the 4X100-meter relay at the world championships, when he pulled up with a leg injury and fell to the track. While on the ground, Bolt started tearing up.

The more than 60,000 spectators gasped as their hero crumbled to the floor, and started tearing up.

The 30-year-old took the baton in third place, at a time when there was still plenty of work to do but that was not to be as Great Britain sprinted away to a maiden gold medal with the USA and Japan in tow.

There was no celebration -- no gold, no silver, not even a consolation bronze, which Bolt received a week earlier in his final 100-meter race.

Jamaica closed the night with "DNF" by its name: Did Not Finish. Bolt was helped into a wheelchair but eventually got to his feet and, assisted by his teammates but then dismissed them as he rose and gingerly walked over the finish line, receiving a limp applause from the crowd, who were just as disappointed as he.

He gave a few waves to the crowd, then left for the trainer's room and, with that, presumably left track and field forever.
