One On One with Moses Folorunsho

Welcome to another edition of One on One. Today we have the opportunity to meet and talk with Mr. Moses Folorunsho.

Recall sometime last week, we reported that Mr. Moses was arrested by the Turkish Cyprus police on accusations that he was in possession of fake student document.

The good news is that he has been released and freed of every accusations leveled against him. Today he will tell us what happened and why he was arrested.

-So happy to have you talk with us today Mr Moses.

Thanks, It's my pleasure.

-You were arrested on Monday last week following claims that you helped a friend process his resident permit with a fake document. What really happened?

What really happened was simple and I will try to be brief about it. Most people know me that I help a lot of people process their resident permit. I don't make or produce documents on my own. They bring the necessary documents and my task is to help them go to the various offices and process it for them. On this particular day, I was given a fake document by a friend and on getting to the immigration office, I was told the document was fake. They wanted to know how come I got the document, but being that I was already involved in the case I decided to cover up for my friend. That was how I was arrested.

-You did not commit the offence but decided to cover up for your friend, why did you put yourself in such a risk?

I am a person who tries to help people as much as I can, no matter the risk involved. I knew the severity of the case but didn't want to drag him into it.

-How long did you stay in detention?

I was arrested on Monday and was released on Friday. Five days.

-While you were arrested, did any one come to your aid?

Yes. Actually there is this Turkish Cypriot family who stood by me all through the case and made sure that the matter was settle amicably. They know me and know what I can do. They trusted I wouldn't do a thing like that, that will put me in trouble.

-What do you have to say to the Cypriot family and those that stood in for you to make sure that justice prevailed?

I just want to appreciate them for the love they showed on me. They stood for me when no body came for me.

-Do you plan to seek charges against the friend who made the fake document?

No. Not at all. I knew what I was getting myself into when I decided to cover up for him. I am glad everything is settled now.

-How was your experience in detention?

Not a good experience. I don't ever want to be there again and will not wish for anyone to be there. There are so many Africans and other nationals there who are just wasting away because nobody came to bail them or help them.

-You said there are many people out there in detention whose case have not been attended to just because no one to stand in for them or bail them, what do you think can be done to help them?

I think schools can do a lot to help, Student bodies and individuals as well. They really need help there. Even taking food to them will also be of great help to them.

-One word for those out there who are waiting to hear the truth of what happened.

I want them to know that I am not a criminal. I didn't do what I was accused of. I was only trying to help a friend to avoid going to prison. I am innocent and I thank God Almighty for seeing me through.

-Any advice to students out there who might want to do same by falsifying their document?

Yes. I wouldn't advise anyone to falsify any documents or what so ever. If I had knew they were fake I wouldn't have accepted them. I advice people out there to stay clean and do positive things.

-Thank you for your time to speak with us.

You are welcome. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to clear the air on the issue.
