Floyd Mayweather Jr. beats Conor McGregor with 10th round TKO
Floyd Mayweather has defeated Conor McGregor, by technical knockout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on Saturday, a result that shocked few, claiming his 50th victory in a fight that lived up to the hype, and maintaining his unbeaten record.
Mayweather, who hasn't lost since 1996 in the Olympics when he was an amateur had declared the fight was not going to go the distance, and he delivered on that promise while McGregor, 29 though, surprised many by going toe to toe with Mayweather until the 10th round.
The Irishman who had been written off before the fight, surprised many of his critics with a largely professional display against Mayweather, by taking the fight to 10 rounds before being defeated by technical knock out.
He got off to a flying start, throwing a series of punches at Mayweather and scoring a few early points. Displaying some theatrics, the Irishman even put his hands behind his back to one stage.
The fight billed as the first boxing-UFC crossover bout in history saw two different sports worlds competing in middleweight boxing match between Mayweather, considered
one of the best defensive boxers of all time, coming out of retirement
at age 40, and current UFC lightweight
champion, McGregor, 29, a mixed martial arts who was about to fight his first professional boxing match.
