Arsenal wins 2017 Community Shiled

Arsenal on Sunday defeated Chelsea on penalties to win the first silverware of the season, the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

It was arguably a deserved victory for the Gunners who put out a spirited display as they come from a goal down to earn a draw at full time before the tie was settled on penalties.

Arsenal conceded a poor goal just after the break when Victor Moses opened the score for Chelsea after capitalising on a breakdown in communication among Arsenal's backline. Chelsea then lost their way towards the end after Pedro was sent off for a foul, allowing Arsenal to get back into the game and find a late equalizer through Kolasinac in the final 10 minutes after he met Granit Xhaka's free-kick.

After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the shoot-out saw goalkeeper Courtois, an unusual choice to take his side's second penalty, bizarrely firing his attempt way over while new signing Alvaro Morata also missed from the spot as Arsenal claimed the Community Shield beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties.
Arsenal have now won the Community Shield three times in the last four years, while the Blues have lost four consecutive appearances in the fixture.

After Arsenal's victory on Sunday, it now means the Shield has been won by the FA Cup winners beating the defending Premier League champions for four consecutive seasons.
