Erdogan blames Greek Cypriot side for failed talks, says time to consider plans B or C

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has blamed the collapse of the just concluded Cyprus reunification talks in Crans-Montana, Switzerland on the Greek Cypriot side’s “negative attitude” adding that Turkey would continue in it's efforts to seek a settlement of the Cyprus problem within different parameters.

Unfortunately, a big opportunity was missed in the Eastern Mediterranean last week. Despite the constructive approach of us and the Northern Cypriot side, we are saddened over the fact that disagreements on the island were once again left unresolved due to the negative attitude of the Greek Cypriot side,” Erdogan said in speech at the opening ceremony of the 22nd World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul on Monday.

According to him, after long struggles at the negotiating table, it has been impossible to find a solution to the Cyprus problem within the parameters of the United Nations’ goodwill mission.

We expect the same attitude from all parties concerned, Erdogan said.
Obviously, we are deeply saddened by the result, adding that “there is no point in insisting on these parameters anymore”.

Speaking on the need to consider ‘Plan B’ or ‘Plan C, he said;

Of course we will make the necessary evaluations on this matter, and we will share [our thoughts] with the public and our partners.
