Robert Mugabe will contest for president of zimbabwe again - hold rally


93-year-old Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has begun a series of rallies across the country in a bid to win the support of young people ahead of next year's presidential elections , BBC reports.


Mugabe launched a 10-venue speaking tour across the country as he aimed at drumming up support ahead of elections next year when he plans to seek reelection again.

Mugabe who appeared in better health than at other recent public appearances, spoke for an hour-and-a-half on Friday at a rally in a stadium at Marondera, outside Harare which was attended by several thousand Zanu-PF supporters reports the The Guardian. 

According to the Guardian, the ruling party seems to be divided over Mugabe’s successor, while opposition groups are in talks to unite to try to oust him in the election.

Mugabe who has been in power since 1980 told those at the rally that those who are vying to succeed him to should "be at peace". "The time will come, it's certainly coming," he added.
