Real Madrid wins Champions League, create record

Real Madrid has create a new record to become the first club to win the Champions League back to back after defeating Juventus 4-1 in the finals at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday night.

Real Madrid wrote another page in the club's colorful history as they became the first team to retain the Champions League in its modern expanded format since A.C. Milan in 1989 and 1990, when the tournament was known as the European Cup.

The victory also means Real Madrid has won the tournament a record 12th time, and its third in four years.
Ronaldo scored in each half. Casemiro scored Madrid’s second goal, while 21-year-old substitute Marco Asensio added the 4th in the 90th minute. Mario Mandzukic scored a memorable goal for Juventus on a scissoring shot midway through the first half, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Juventus conceded more in Cardiff than the rest of their continental run combined.

The defeat means, Juventus has lost in the final for the seventh time, another record and was the third defeat in the final for veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon denying the 39-year-old the one title he has yet to lift in his career.

Real Madrid also created a small piece of history by scoring their 500th goal in the Champions League – the first team in the history of the competition to reach that milestone with Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike against Juventus allowing the Santiago Bernabeu club to attain that mark.
Ronaldo also became the first player to score in three Champions League finals.
