British authorities evacuates London towers over failed tests

Thousands of residents in a sprawling north London housing estate were forced to evacuate their apartments amid chaotic scenes on Friday after fire checks that found the buildings to be unsafe were carried out following the deadly Grenfell Tower blaze.

According to British authorities, fire checks have been carried out on some 600 high-rise buildings across England while 27 high-rise apartment blocks have failed fire safety checks including several in north London where residents .
Residents are evacuated from the Taplow residential tower block on the Chalcots Estate
Residents clutching children, pets and small amounts of clothing and food emerged from five tower blocks to sleep on air beds in a local sports centre after hearing on the news that their buildings were being evacuated.

Police investigating the cause of the deadly 24-storey Grenfell Tower blaze that occurred on June 14 killing 79 people have said that the fire started in a fridge but spread rapidly due to the use of external cladding on the building, trapping residents in their beds as they slept.

Local councils say they were removing cladding from the facades of buildings that had failed the tests.
