Bizarre moment Trump interrupts call to new leader of Ireland to flirt with female reporter's 'nice smile' in Oval Office
Several reporters were surprised to be invited into the Oval Office for a face-to-face meeting with US president, Donald Trump on Tuesday but Trump came under fire after a viral video showed him ‘flirting’ with an Irish reporter during a phone call with
Ireland’s new prime minister, Leo Varadkar.
Trump was congratulating Varadkar, who is Ireland’s first gay prime minister, on his recent election when he broke off to compliment a reporter's "nice smile".
As the pair discussed issues such as migration and Britain's exit from the European Union, Trump told Varadkar; "Well, we have a lot of your Irish press watching us." “And where are you from?" he then asks Caitriona Perry, Washington correspondent for RTE as he pointed and beckoned her with his index finger before saying she has a "nice smile."
Trump beckoned her to his desk in the Oval
Office.
After Ms Perry approached Trump and gave her name and organisation, Mr Trump said to Varadkar:
Ms Perry, the Washington correspondent and US bureau chief for RTE, and a few others laughed as she returned to her spot in the room and the call continued.

And where are you from? Go ahead, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press. Where are you from?’

She has a nice smile on her face. So I bet she treats you well.

The 71-year-old
business mogul-turned-politician who faced calls to
withdraw from last year’s presidential election over inappropriate
remarks about women, is being criticised on social media for calling the
reporter over and commenting on her looks.
Ms Perry later tweeted video of the exchange, calling it a “very bizarre moment”. She told RTE Entertainment:One minute we were outside the window and the next minute I’m meeting the president of the United States.
Usually we would shoot from outside the window of the White House and that’s what we were expecting today but instead we were invited inside to witness the president’s call to the Taoiseach.
When we went in he was already on the phone but I managed to catch his eye and he called me over.
