Turkey bans TV dating shows

Turkish authorities have moved to ban radio and TV dating programs in the country following the latest state of emergency decree issued by Ankara, affecting the hugely popular entertainment show.

The ban comes with a new clause to the article on protecting children in the country’s media law.
“In radio and television broadcasting services, such programs in which people are introduced with the purpose of finding a friend or searching for a spouse... cannot be permitted,” reads a statement in Turkey’s Official Gazette, which publishes new legislation.
The announcement was made on Saturday in the official gazette where decrees from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan become law upon publication under a state of emergency he imposed after last year’s failed coup attempt.

The new decree, also outlawed advertising for matchmaking service.
