Scam alert to all students seeking to rent apartments in Cyprus
It has come to our notice that the man whose photograph appears above and identified as Ahmet has been SCAMMING various students seeking to rent apartments in North Cyprus for the past two
years.
According to Ken Ikenna Pope who raised the alarm, the man is in the habit of taking students who are looking for apartment to rent, to unoccupied flat with the promise of a lot of good things about the flat, including how they will bring new furniture etc,
He will then collect 6 months rent or 1 year rent with 2 months deposit and sometimes asks for commission, he will then assure the student that they are going to move into the flat in a certain period of time and when it is time for them to move in, the students will then realized that they have been duped.
He then starts to plead with the student to give him time to to raise the money (during which he looks for other students as victims) to pay back).
According to Ken, the most recent case is that of 2 Nigerian guys who paid him the sum of £4800 pounds and €4000 euros respectively for two different apartments only to find out a month later that they have been SCAMMED after waiting endlessly for him to deliver the keys to them as he promised.
All foreign students are advised to be watchful who they deal with while searching for apartments.
