Manchester attack: Bomber called mom to say he was sorry

Manchester Arena bomber Salman Adebi reportedly phoned his nuclear scientist mother to say 'forgive me', hours before his deadly attack that killed 22 people and left 59 others wounded on Monday May 22 said a Libyan anti-terror official.

A Libyan security source revealed that Abedi rang his younger brother Hashem in Libya, telling him to get their mother Samia Tabbal, 50, to call him.

Details of his plea for forgiveness emerged after Tabbal was quizzed by police in Tripoli.

News sources in the US, citing intelligence officials, claimed that Abedi's mother was worried her son had been radicalised and it has been claimed she alerted authorities.

According to a US intelligence official, Adebi's family had informed authorities as they feared he had become 'dangerous.'

Meanwhile, Special Deterrent Force spokesman Ahmed bin Salem said Tabbal told interrogators her son left Libya for England only four days before the bombing and called her on the same day of the attack.
