Chemical attack kills dozens in war torn Syria

Dozens of people, including children has been killed by a suspected chemical attack in rebel-held town in northwestern Syria leaving many more residents sick, gasping for breath and convulsing in the streets and overcrowded hospitals on Tuesday.


The incident which lead to widespread outrage locally and internationally, has been described as one of the owrst chemical bombings in Syrian since the beginning of the country's six year war.

According to a report by Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, at least 58 civilians has died including 11 children from the attack on the town of Khan Sheikhun with dozens suffering respiratory problems and symptoms including vomiting, fainting and foaming at the mouth.

They said the toxic substance spread after warplanes dropped bombs in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Syria's opposition has blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces.
 
World leaders including US President Donald Trump condemned the attack, who labelled it as a "heinous" act that "cannot be ignored by the civilised world" and blamed Bashar al-Assad's government for the attack, calling on its patrons, Russia and Iran, to prevent a recurrence of what many described as a war crime. 

France and Britain also accused Assad for the attack.
