Beyonce offers university scholarships to women

US singer, Beyonce is marking the anniversary of her Grammy-award-winning album "Lemonade" and in doing so, the pop star has announced four college scholarships for women in creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies at four US universities.

The mother of one announced that her Formation Scholars Award will be awarded to a single black woman student at four schools. The schools are Boston's Berklee College of Music, New York's Parsons School of Design and two historically black colleges, Howard University in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta's Spelman College.

The announcement says the scholarships are aimed at encouraging and supporting women "who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative conscious and confident."
The Formation Scholars awards, for the 2017-18 academic year, are "to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident," her website says.
The scholarships which will come into effect in the upcoming school year, will see each college receive one recipient for the 2017-18 academic year.

Interested students are asked to submit a portfolio of work and answer an essay prompt: "How has LEMONADE inspired your educational goals?"
