39 year old Emmanuel Macron, the man who might be France's next president

Emmanuel Macron is set for the unthinkable as he is poised to be France next president. Macron, 39 and a former banker got into the final round of the French presidential race on Sunday without the support of either of the two major political parties and now the support are coming.

The election regarded as the most shocking and unpredictable campaign in modern French history became the first a sitting president will not seek for a reelection since the founding of the Fifth Republic in 1958, after president Hollande refuse to run for a second term, but his party’s chosen successor, Benoit Hamon, is lagging behind in an unprecedented fifth place behind far-left rival Jean-Luc Melenchon.

Macron who is married to a 64-year old woman resigned from Socialist President François Hollande’s government in 2016 to launch his En Marche! (On the Move!) political movement which many thought was doomed to fail.

But in less than 18 months more than 200,000 members has signed-up for the movement. He is now vying for the presidency with another outsider, the Front National’s Marine Le Pen, in the first round of the French presidential election.

He seems to be receiving lots of backing now as Senior French conservatives and Socialist presidential candidate Benoit Hamon pulled their weight behind him and are ready to back the centrist in a May 7 runoff against far-right leader Marine Le Pen.
Following initial projections indicated Macron and Le Pen had qualified for the second round. Socialist candidate Benoit Hamon told supporters his party had suffered an "historic blow" from its voter base and called on voters to back Macron and reject Le Pen in "the strongest possible way".

Former prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, a member of defeated candidate Francois Fillon's The Republicans party, has also spoken of his support for Macron.

"Without hesitation, as far as I'm concerned we've got to rally behind Emmanuel Macron," he said.
If French conservatives, socialists are supporting him, then he is as good as being the next French president... Watch this space.
